This is a continuation of part 1 of this series. If you have not read the previous part, please do. Go to Building The Perfect WordPress Blog From Scratch Part 1 to read it first.
Install a Good WordPress Theme or Template
I have seen a lot of bloggers using the default WordPress theme which to my opinion does not look too good. People want to see a fresh looking blog and not the same designs over and over again. There are free and paid themes all over the internet but for a start you can still find a good looking premium-like themes. A simple Google search could get you a ton of free WordPress themes. Make sure your theme goes with your niche and your target market. For example, you might not want to use a pink-colored theme on Men site.
Add Necessary Pages
Remove Unnecessary Links
Some links come with the default theme in the Blogroll and other sections like inside the Footer. Remove them unless it violate the terms of the theme author (especially free themes).
Add Your Ads
To have gone all the way down to this point I believe you wish to monetize your blog. What is a blog without any monetization anyways? At this point, you might want to add at least Google Adsense. I choose Google Adsense because it is my priority as it helps you to earn somethings no matter how little your traffic is. I don’t list any Adsense placement plugins above because it can be inserted into your blog easily but if you can do that, there are tons of free Adsense plugins you can use.
I can not cover tips on how to optimize Adsense for high CTR because that alone covers a whole article which I will be writing soon. Most importantly, the basics are: make sure the ads blend well with your contents. Use the same background and link color as in your web pages and place them in strategic positions where your visitor’s eye would first go.
As a matter of fact, Adsense is not the only way to monetize a blog. There are many ways you can monetize your blog like Amazon, Clickbank, Ebay and others. Apart from adding Adsense code into your blog, you can get banners from other affiliate site, write reviews as a custom post which can even boost your SEO, or sell advert space on your blog for a price.
Actually there are a ton of other monetization options like setting up an auto responder and so on. I will cover them all in separate articles the following week.
