Finally, the WhatsApp in-app voice calling feature is here for good and every android users are now set to start making free calls through the app. Although, this feature is long overdue since we’ve seen similar apps with this feature for a long time now. Unlike WhatsApp, apps like Line, Snapchat, Viber and WeChat has deployed the in-app calling features for some time now.
But few days back, WhatsApp annouced it in-app voice calling feature which is now available to all android users all over the world.
How to Activate WhatsApp Calling Feature
As at the time of writing this post, the WhatsApp voice calling feature is only available on version 2.12.19, which is not yet available on Google Play Store. Although, some said the Google Play Store version works well for them, you can download it and try if it work. You can however download the latest WhatsApp version on WhatsApp website here or on Google Play Store here.
After you must have installed the latest APK file, open it and you will see a new tab for Calls next to the Chats and Contacts tabs. Once you’ve successfully downloaded and installed the latest WhatsApp, you’ll be able to make use of this feature.
How to Use WhatsApp Free Call
To make a free call, just tap on the Calls tab and select the name of the person that you want to call. You don’t need an invite anymore before you could use this feature.
When a friend calls you using WhatsApp, you will see an incoming WhatsApp call screen. You can then answer the call by sliding the green button and slide the red button to decline the call.
Or you can tap on the message icon on the Call Screen to decline the call with a quick message to the caller.
Your WhatsApp Calls tab also has a list of all your call logs – incoming, outgoing and missed WhatsApp calls.
With WhatsApp calling feature, you can also switch to speakerphone, mute the call and view the time spent during the call as well.

For now, WhatsApp in-app call is only available on android and will soon come to other mobile platforms (such as iPhones, Windows Phones and certain Blackberry models) in few weeks time.
However, it should be noted that this feature allows you to make calls for free but it uses your data to make the call. So if you are not on Wi-Fi or unlimited data bundle or plan, use this voice calling feature with care.
It should be noted also that the WhatsApp free voice calling feature can not be used to make emergency calls.
