Creating a Favicon
A favicon is a 16×16 pixels square graphic which is saved as favicon.ico in the root directory of your server. A favicon can be used with a blog on a web server that allows access to the root directories. You can create a favicon image with a graphic software that will allow you to save an image in the .ico format. There is a free graphic software you can use for this purpose called The GIMP. If you can not find a graphic software that can save images in the .ico format, there are online services that can convert any image format to a .ico format. Inserting the Favicon File
Some themes comes with a favicon file, make sure you delete it by using an FTP Clients or using your cPanel.
Then follow these steps to insert your favicon file:
1. Upload your favicon.ico file into your current theme’s folder and your site main directory (ie. http://example.com/favicon.ico).
2. Then log into your WordPress Dashboard
3. Click Appearance to expand it
4. Click Editor
5. Then click the file called Header or header.php and Search for the line of code that begins with
<link rel="shortcut icon" and ends with /favicon.ico" />.
Overwrite it, if it exists, or add the following code below the <head> HTML tag.
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/favicon.ico" />
6. Save the changes.
To see your new favicon, clear your browser’s cache. You may need to restart your browser in order to see the new favicon.
